Profile:
Takanori Gomi is a Japanese MMA fighter and is also known as "The Fireball Kid". Born in September, 1978, Gomi currently fights in Pride FC where he is known for being almost ambidextrous as a striker. Though his professional MMA career began in 1998, he has been fighting in PRIDE Fighting Championships since his 2004 debut in that organization against Jadson Costa. Recently he lost in a thrilling match against Californian Nick Diaz via gogoplata, a submission grappling move that is not often seen. However, Gomi was awarded the win by the California State Athletic Commission when it was revealed that Diaz tested positive for marijuana use in his pre-fight test.
Gomi has always been a natural athlete and was the pitcher of his junior high school baseball team. After not passing an important test in high school, he dropped out. This lead to an argument with his father, who disowned him. Gomi then dedicated himself to the combat sports and has been on an upwards trajectory ever since.
