Profile:
Sean Sherk began fighting mixed martial arts professionally in 1999, and has had an active MMA fighting career. A wrestler by training, Sherk's small and powerful frame has turned him into a very tough foe. This Minnesota fighter's beaten the likes of Nick Diaz and Kenny Florian.
Sherk, a father of two, left the sport of mixed martial arts for a time, working in the flooring business and has returned to active competition in the UFC.
In July 2007 the California State Athletic Commission announced that Sean Sherk tested positive for nandrolone metabolites after his match against Hermes Franca. He appealed his steroids suspension from the CSAC and on October 31, 2007 his sentencing was postponed when Sherk's lawyer presented information which the CSAC said they would need more time to examine. On December fourth, 2007 the CSAC reduced Sherk's sentence to six months but the charges against him were not removed. On April 14, 2008, the CSAC released him from his suspension. One week prior however, based on Sherk's earlier positive test for steroids the Nevada State Athletic Commission decided that Sherk had to provide an extra drug test prior to his fight against BJ Penn at UFC 84, which he passed.
In preparation for his fight against BJ Penn, Sean Sherk brought Gracie Barra Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Marcio Feitosa to Minnesota to emulate Penn's BJJ body type and fighting style.
