Profile:
Nick Diaz is a fighter from northern California and is managed by Cesar Gracie, who promoted Nick Diaz to the rank of black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu in May 2007. In 2007 he tested positive for marijuana in his system before his fight with Takanori Gomi and was suspended from fighting by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for six months and fined $3,000. This time off allowed him to pursue other aspects of the sport, as he was selected by the Gracie Fighting Championships to be a commentator for their event on May 19th 2007.
In March 2008, Nick Diaz was supposed to fight Drew Fickett at Strikeforce: Frank Shamrock vs Cung Le in San Jose, but just days before the event, the California State Athletic Commission stated that his papers were not in order and he would not be allowed to fight. It is believed that the processing of Nick Diaz' medical marijuana card may have been involved.
Nick Diaz' younger brother Nate Diaz is also an MMA fighter.
Nick Diaz also enjoys swimming and will compete in endurance competitions to keep himself in shape for MMA fighting.
