Fedor Emelianenko is a Russian heavyweight mixed martial arts fighter and was born in September 1976 in the Ukraine. His mother s a teacher and his father is a gas-electric welder. Emelianenko served in the Russian army as a firefighter. Emelianenko's first professional fight took place in 2000, the year after getting married and the birth of his first daughter Masha. Since that time his almost perfect record has earned him immense popularity and almost perpetual ranking as the top heavyweight MMA fighter in the world.
When not training Emelianenko is reported to enjoy the beach and painting. His younger brother Aleksander Emelianenko is also an MMA fighter.
After the purchase of the PrideFC Japanese MMA promotion by Zuffa LLC in early 2007, Fedor Emelianenko was left as a free agent. In October 2007 Emelianenko ended months of speculation and announced that he would be signing with the Russian MMA promotion known as M-1.
