On December 14, 2007 was arrested for attempted robbery of a car in Sao Paulo. It is reported that when he crashed the stolen car he then tried to flee by stealing a scooter from one of Sao Paulo's many "motoboys". He failed and was taken into custory. On December 15, when jail authorities made their regular 7AM check of inmates, Ryan Gracie was found dead in his cell. No details of the cause of death were provided.
