Profile:
Tank Abbott holds a unique spot in the mind of most long-time UFC fans. Tank first appeared in UFC 6 in 1995, beating John Mantua, Paul Varelans, and losing to Oleg Taktarov in the same night.
Tank Abbott has continued fighting irregularly since that time. Between 1999 and 2002 he did not fight professionally once. Since his return in 2003 Tank Abbott matches almost always end in a loss for the Huntington Beach fighter, which are at least in part due to poor conditioning. Tank Abbott contends that the reason for his poor performance is due to accepting fights on short notice, and that when given enough time to prepare he is the toughest fighter there is.
MMA fans may be surprised to learn that Tank Abbott graduated from college and has completed a marathon. Currently he is writing a memoir.
