A sanshou kickboxer by training, Cung Le made the transition to mixed martial arts in 2006 at the Strikeforce event featuring Frank Shamrock and Cesar Gracie.
Cung Le started wrestling in eighth grade and became an All-American wrestler in high school and, later, a California state wrestling champion at West Valley Junior College. He is married and has two children. Le trains at AKA in San Jose, California.
Cung Le made $200,000 for his defeat of Frank Shamrock in March 2008 according to the California State Athletic Commission. Le reportedly entered the fight against Shamrock with 21 stitches in his lip due to an accident he suffered while filming a movie shortly before their encounter.
